Work Experience
Year 10 work experience
Dates: Monday 6th - 10th July 2026.
Sign off by Monday 13th April 2026.
Sign off for placements will be done online using the Career Thread Portal.
Each Year10 student will have an account where they can add their placement details, once it has been confirmed with the employer.
In readiness for adding your placement to the system, you will need to obtain the following information:
- Company Name, Full Address and Postcode
- Contact Name – First and Surname
- Contact email address and phone number
- Student's Supervisor's name – if different to contact person
- What your role will be whilst at the placement.
- The start and end time for each day on placement
The system will then automatically go through the sign-off process, starting with the initial parent/carer sign off, then to employer sign off, back to parent, student and then to school.
On the initial Parent/Carer sign off-stage, parents/carers will have the opportunity to add any further information, confirming information for the employer about their child's needs.
Employers will add the extra details about the placement and documentation requested.
Your child will have a dashboard where they can see the current status of the sign-off for the placement.
Please advise the employer to look out for an email from Career Thread. If they do not receive it, please get in contact, and we can get the system to send it again.

Finding a placement:
- Decide on what you want to do, which industry, type of job and company you want to experience.
- Google to find businesses in the area who do this line of work.
- Research which companies you want to contact.
- Contact each of these companies - asking if they are able to offer a work experience placement.
Companies prefer it when you (the student) contact them about a placement, either in-person, via email or telephone call. (Parents, form tutors and Miss Dallimore are here to support you if you are not sure how – just ask). - If no, try another company.
- If yes, and you want to go there - fill in the paperwork and have it signed off by the employer, parent/carer and you (student).
-
- If you are struggling to find a placement, ask fellow students where they are trying, ask friends or family for ideas.
- Ask where students went in previous years.
- Think of another job in a different industry to try.
If you have any questions, please contact Miss Dallimore - careers@barnwoodpark.co.uk
