The Duke of Edinburgh's Award at Barnwood Park
Barnwood Park School is proud to offer students the opportunity to take part in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, commonly known as DofE.
Hundreds of thousands of young people take part in DofE each year — and you could be one of them.
At Barnwood Park School, we currently offer both Bronze and Silver DofE. Students can start their DofE in the school year they turn 14, and must achieve their Award before their 25th birthday.
Students can start each level from:
Bronze: the school year they turn 14
Silver: the school year they turn 15
DofE helps young people build lifelong belief in themselves. It supports students to take on their own challenges, follow their passions and discover talents they may not have known they had.
The programme is about students and their friends sharing amazing experiences together, having fun and maybe even changing their futures along the way. Doing DofE helps turn the things students already enjoy, and the things they have always wanted to try, into powerful skills that can support them in later life.
Through DofE, students complete different sections, including volunteering, physical activity, skills development and an expedition. This means they will have the chance to make a difference in their community, become fitter and healthier, develop new interests, make new friends and create memories that will last a lifetime. And yes, there will be a bit of camping involved.
Taking part in DofE also helps students develop skills and confidence that are valuable when applying for college, university or future employment. Employers and universities often look for evidence of soft skills such as communication, commitment, leadership and teamwork. A DofE Award is a fantastic way for students to show that they have developed these skills in practice.
Many participants say that doing their DofE supports their self-belief and resilience, boosts their mental wellbeing and helps them overcome personal challenges.
