Barnwood Park School

Term 4 2025

As we head into the Easter break (and hopefully some better weather), I wanted to share with you some of the incredible things that our students have been doing this term.

For our Year 11 students, this term has been demanding, but we are delighted to report that they have worked with maturity and commitment. It’s a busy time as students pour their knowledge into their final NEA pieces for subjects including Photography, Art, and Food. It is also wonderful to see our performers taking the stage in Drama, Music, and Dance as they complete their final practical exams and share their hard-earned talents.

With GCSE examinations approaching, our staff are working hard to equip Year 11 with the confidence and knowledge needed for success. We encourage students to attend the scheduled Easter revision sessions and utilise all available support. As this intensive period begins, we also remind students to balance their studies with self-care to ensure peak performance. Hard work and persistence remain the keys to achieving your goals.

While Year 11 are navigating this crucial phase, the school has also seen a range of exciting and enriching activities for our other year groups:

● Our Year 9s had a successful Careers trip to Gloucester University as a "soft introduction" to university life. The goal is to demystify higher education and help students see how their current GCSE choices connect to future careers. They took part in:

○ Interactive Workshops: Designing an 'ideal' university campus, different types of degrees and what life is like as a student.

○ Campus Tours: Led by current university students (Student Ambassadors), Year 9s got to see the lecture theatres, student unions, and facilities.

○ Student Q&A: A chance to ask real students what it’s actually like to live away from home and what the social life is like.

● The school also hosted another successful author visit from Anna February, bestselling author of ‘The Hive’ and following on from that, the Book Fair was a fantastic success, sparking a real buzz for reading across the school. It was a joy to see so many students eager to dive into new stories and discover different authors. A huge thank you to everyone who supported this event and helped inspire our next generation of readers, and I’m delighted to report that we reached our selling target, which means we have been able to claim £85 worth of free books for our library

● A group of our dance students recently headed to London for the 'Move It' Dance Convention. It was a non-stop celebration of dance where the students met professional dancers and industry icons, took part in masterclasses to sharpen their skills and watched incredible live performances. Our students represented us brilliantly, soaking up the atmosphere and coming home full of fresh inspiration.

● Inclusion was in action at the recent SEND Festival of Sport, where students enjoyed a range of adapted sporting activities. The day was a resounding success, fostering teamwork and a great sense of achievement for all involved.

● The Multi-Skills PE Festival was a standout success for our Sports Leader students. Not only did they help promote active lifestyles through a variety of movement-based activities, but they also served as outstanding ambassadors for the school. Feedback from the attending primary schools was excellent, highlighting the kindness and dedication our leaders showed to the younger participants.

● CentreStage is in production as I write this, and I was thrilled to be able to attend the first of the 2 amazing evenings on Tuesday. Congratulations to all staff, students (and parents) who contributed to this highly successful and entertaining production.  Photos and videos will be available after the Easter break.  Please speak to Miss Saunders & Miss Knight for further details.

Looking to the future, our Year 9 students are currently in the process of choosing their GCSE options. This is an exciting time as they begin to shape their academic pathways for the next two years.

I wish you all a happy Easter break. We welcome back all students on Monday 13th April.
