The lifecycle of a placement on the placements tool
- A student (or their teacher) gets the ball rolling by adding a new placement.
- The employer is notified by email, and they confirm that they follow best practice.
- The parent/guardian signs an agreement for the placement to happen.
- The placement coordinator (a teacher at your school / college) reviews all the information provided by each party, and gives their consent for the placement to happen.
- While the placement is taking place, teachers can record check-ins if they want to.
- The student and employer reflect on the placement after it is finished. The employer can choose to add themselves to the school / college’s placements database.
Students will be able to track the sign-off process from their Unifrog dashboard, where they can see the current status of the sign-off for the placement.
Please advise the employer to look out for an email from Unifrog. If they do not receive it, please get in contact, and we can get the system to send it again.
Finding a placement:
- Decide on what you want to do, which industry, type of job and company you want to experience.
- Google to find businesses in the area who do this line of work.
- Research which companies you want to contact.
- Contact each of these companies, asking if they are able to offer a work experience placement.
Companies prefer it when you (the student) contact them about a placement, either in-person, via email or telephone call. - If no, try another company.
- If yes, and you want to go there, add the placement to your Unifrog account and have it signed off by the employer, parent/carer and you (student).
- If you are struggling to find a placement, ask fellow students where they are trying, ask friends or family for ideas.
- Ask where students went in previous years.
- Think of another job in a different industry to try.
