Term 6 2026

As the academic year draws to a close, I am incredibly proud to reflect on what has been a genuinely defining period for our school. This year has represented a major step forward, characterised by collective effort, deep commitment, and excellent progress across all aspects of our community.
Our academic results highlight this positive trajectory. By refining our teaching strategies, we have secured a clear increase in the number of students reaching and surpassing their academic targets. Just as importantly, we have witnessed a wonderful shift in classroom culture, with students demonstrating a newfound enthusiasm for learning and tackling unfamiliar challenges with genuine confidence.
Enrichment outside the classroom has also reached new heights this term. We have significantly increased our calendar of excursions, external visits, and guest speakers. Highlights included:
-
Creative Arts: Our wonderful Dance team represented our school at the Great British Dance Off finals.
-
Pastoral: We welcomed many guest speakers to talk to different year groups, including Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service.
-
Careers: A highly successful week of work placements for Year 10, alongside valuable outings like the Geography fieldwork.
-
Sport: Barnwood Park's participation in Schools District Athletics, rounders tournaments, football tournaments, the Festival of Sport and our own sports day.
These milestones are a direct result of the support and trust between our staff, families, and pupils. Our teachers have worked tirelessly to embed new educational strategies and deliver the highest quality of instruction. Equally, our parents and carers have partnered with us at an unprecedented level—attending information evenings, participating in workshops, and reinforcing learning at home. Above all, our students have met every expectation with resilience, flexibility, and a drive to succeed.
While we are pausing to celebrate these successes, we are already preparing for an exciting next chapter. September will bring the much anticipated arrival of Mr Meldrum, and we are confident that you will support him as he takes the school to even greater success. There will also be the continuation of the rewarding of students for attendance, behaviour and academic and sporting participation and success. We will also be debuting an even wider array of after-school clubs and activities.
My sincere thanks go to every individual who has played a part in this year’s success. Working as one, we are creating an environment where every young person can flourish and achieve their potential. I wish you all a restful and enjoyable summer.
