Attendance Update

Thank you for your continued support of attendance and supporting your child to attend school.  Good attendance is vital not only for academic success but also to help develop socially and emotionally.  Letters have been sent out to parents/carers of students whose attendance this year was below our school target of 96% to raise awareness and also to offer support and advice so that families and school can work together in September.

As we reach the end of the academic year, it has been wonderful to see the changes to our lates process having a positive impact on punctuality in the mornings and again, thank you for your support in helping students arrive to school on time.  As a school, we will continue to celebrate student's attendance by continuing with our termly certificates, prize draws, attendance rewards as well as continuing to recognise improvements in attendance, so all students have the opportunity to have their efforts recognised.

We understand, of course, that illnesses can and do occur, and there are times when children genuinely need to rest and recover at home. Your child’s wellbeing remains a priority for us, and we want to assure you that we appreciate the challenges many families face when making decisions about school attendance.

To help guide you, the NHS provides advice on when it is appropriate to keep children off school. In many cases, common ailments such as mild colds or headaches do not require time off and can be managed in school.

Looking ahead, September offers a fresh start for every student. We will continue to monitor attendance closely and will be in contact with families where attendance falls below expectations to discuss how we can work together to provide any support needed.

Reporting your child absent - a polite reminder

If it is necessary for your child to be off school, a reminder that you must, for safeguarding reasons, contact the school via the attendance line (01452 530389 and select option 1 for attendance). Alternatively, please email attendance at attendance@barnwoodpark.co.uk or report your child absent through the My Child At School (MCAS) App.  When reporting your child absent, please confirm your child's name, tutor group and the reason for their absence.

Star Students of the Term

Year 7 - Jaxon Turner
Jaxon is someone that puts 100% effort into everything he does whether that is in the classroom or on the sports field. He is always on time, in the correct uniform, pleasant and polite. He has had a great year and has a bright future. Well done Jaxon.

Year 8 - Esme Mason
Esme is an excellent student in all aspects of school life. Helpful, friendly and kind to all staff and students. She is a great team player - as seen by her enthusiasm, engaging in Sports Day and supporting the fundraising for the Morocco trip. Keep up the great work going into year 9 Esme.

Year 9 - Kiana Liggett
Kiana is a capable student who has experienced some ups and downs this year, but is finishing year 9 on a great high! She has excelled in sports and won the gold medal at the recent GLT athletics event, which is a phenomenal achievement. She regularly features as one of the top students for Sparx homework for English, Maths and Science. Her strong finish to Year 9 should lead to an excellent start to her GCSE experience next year.

Year 10 - Finlay Brain
For his excellent work ethic in every lesson. His good attendance and commitment to extracurricular activities including undertaking DofE Silver award. Well done Finlay, keep up the good work into Year 11!
