Star Students of the Term

Year 7 – Eleanor Coggins
Eleanor has made a fantastic start to her secondary school journey and has settled well into Barnwood Park. She works hard in all lessons – giving maximum effort into everything that she does. She has made excellent progress in her subjects this year and has taken opportunities offered to her by attending extracurricular clubs and representing the school in sporting fixtures. She has over 98% attendance and excellent behaviour with no APs this year! She is polite and kind to both students and staff. Well done Eleanor on an excellent year.

Year 8 – Jesiah Olajide
Jesiah has had a great year in which he has shown resilience, determination and maturity. Jesiah has overcome adversity, never letting his recovery from injury affect his determination to succeed. he has excellent attendance and gives 100% in every lesson. He is a good friend to all, a team player and valued member of the school community. Well done Jesiah!

Year 9 – Ethan McNamee
For demonstrating an outstanding attitude and an excellent finish to Year 9, Ethan has shown increasing maturity throughout the school year and has worked hard in all of his lessons, even when faced with challenges—such as feeling very tired after staying up to watch the England game! Ethan was also an excellent role model during the Multi-Skills event with our primary schools, representing Barnwood Park with pride and showcasing the very best of our school values.

Year 10 – Heather Wheelwright
Heather is a delightful, polite, and conscientious student who is a true asset to her cohort. She has maintained excellent attendance this year and has earned an impressive 205 house points, alongside half colours in both Determination and Success. Heather works exceptionally hard across all her studies, excelling in every area—including her creative subjects. She is extremely proactive and took it upon herself to overnight amend and improve her English speaking assessment—a brilliant display of determination and dedication.

Beyond the classroom, Heather proudly represented the school in the district athletics competition and her tutor group on Sports Day and has secured a second work experience placement with TBS engineering, which she will complete in the school holidays in addition to her placement with EDF.

What an excellent Year 10.  Keep up the amazing work, Heather!

Performing Arts

It has been an incredibly busy and talent-filled term in the Performing Arts department, and we are so proud of everything our students have achieved!

Our dancers took to the national stage, competing in the finals of The Great Big Dance Off against top schools from all across the UK. Reaching the national finals is a massive achievement, and they represented the school brilliantly with an outstanding performance.

Over in music, anticipation is building for the end-of-year Big Bash. We are immensely proud of all the acts taking the stage and want to recognise the weeks of hard work and dedication they have poured into their rehearsals. It is going to be a fantastic celebration to close out the year.

Our Drama Club has also been exceptionally busy putting together a series of fantastic short performances. They have been sharing their hard work this week during our lunchtime shows.

Looking Ahead: The Wizard of Oz! We are thrilled to announce that our upcoming school musical will be the classic, The Wizard of Oz, with performances scheduled for 8th and 9th December.

Auditions will take place the very first week back after the summer holidays, beginning Monday 7th September. We encourage everyone to get involved – we can't wait to see all the incredible talent Barnwood has to offer!

Year 10 English Exams

Congratulations to all the Year 10 students who have successfully completed their final English Language spoken exam. This assessment forms the NEA for English Language and all students will receive a separate endorsement as part of their final GCSE grade for English. The standard of speeches has been exceptionally high and all your teachers have been entertained, educated or emotional about the speeches they've heard. We can't wait to continue this success into Year 11.

Maths Department

We are thrilled to announce that five of our Year 10 students have been accepted onto the Further Forward online programme with the Exeter Maths School for the next academic year!

This course is an incredible opportunity for them to stretch their problem-solving skills and will work well alongside the Level 2 Further Maths Programme Miss Neale is running in school.

Huge congratulations to all five students—we are incredibly proud of this fantastic achievement!

Student Success
