Week 1

Fun Friday – The Big Booky Quiz 
Students got involved in the quiz during lunchtime and two teams went head to head for the prize. 

Throughout the session, students learnt about the wide range of innovative products Renishaw designs and manufactures, including precision measurement equipment, CNC machine probes, metal additive manufacturing (3D printing) systems, and medical and dental technologies. The engineers also spoke about the many apprenticeship opportunities available, with a particular focus on GET in Barnwood, Gloucester, which is within walking distance of the school—an exciting and realistic option for our students.

2027 Morocco trip - Mt Mgoun & the Bougmez Valley
In the summer of 2027 GLT is going to Morocco on an epic expedition.

We will bargain hunt in bustling bazaars and journey into the Atlas mountains to help out with a community project. We will learn to cook traditional Moroccan tagines in vibrant Marrakech and visit the sleepy coastal town of Essaouira (where GoT was filmed). Did we mention surfing and mountain biking too! Though only a few hours by plane, the Morroco experience is a million miles away from home. Want to join us? Of course you do!

10,515 cooks, across 6 continents and 42 countries helped smash the record!

A group of year 8 students took part in Jamie Oliver's attempt to break a Guinness World Record for the largest cookery lesson (multiple venues)! Chefs at the Jamie Oliver Cookery School lead a live, virtual cooking lesson to make a delicious dish of homemade pasta in a tasty tomato sauce from scratch.

There was also a different sports activity each day at lunchtime for all students to participate in: Netball Shoot Off, Rugby Crossbar Challenge, Football Kick-Up Challenge, Frisbee Golf and Staff vs Students Tug of War.

Students were invited to enter a competition to design a Space Mission Badge. This was a national competition run by the Science Museum, but we also ran an internal one.

Painting of the Barnwood Lion Cub is underway and we are running a competition for students to come up with a name! (Entry slips available from form tutors and to be submitted by Fri 16th May). We look forward to seeing what students come up with.

A group of students from Years 7-11 performed 2 dances at 'The Great Big Dance Off' in Bath. They have worked exceptionally hard over the past few weeks and did a terrific job!

In the Summer of 2025, Lions at Large – The Pride of Gloucestershire Trail will be ‘roaring’ onto the streets of Cheltenham and Gloucester!

There will be over 30 large Lion sculptures, designed and painted by local artists, joined by the Cub Club – a pride of little Lions lovingly created by local schools and community groups.
